Appraisals: Understand the Value of What You Own

Not every visit is about selling. Sometimes you simply need to understand what a collection is worth — for your own peace of mind, for insurance coverage, or as part of settling an estate. We offer both quick verbal evaluations and more formal written appraisals, depending on what you need.

Two levels of evaluation

Verbal evaluations vs. written appraisals

Choose the level of detail that matches your purpose.

Verbal evaluation

A conversational walkthrough of your coins, currency, or bullion, done in the shop. We explain what we see, discuss approximate value, and answer questions — well suited for deciding whether to sell or simply understanding a collection.

Written appraisal

A documented appraisal suitable for insurance scheduling, estate records, or legal purposes. This typically involves a more detailed, itemized review and results in paperwork you can keep or share with an insurer, attorney, or family members.

When a written appraisal helps

Insurance and estate purposes

  • Scheduling a collection on a homeowners or specialty insurance policy
  • Estate inventories for probate or tax purposes
  • Dividing a collection fairly among multiple heirs
  • Personal recordkeeping for a valuable or growing collection

Before you come in

What to bring

  • The items themselves, as complete as possible
  • Any prior appraisals, certificates, or purchase records
  • For insurance appraisals, information about the policy or coverage you're arranging

What to expect

Turnaround and fees

Verbal evaluations are typically done the same visit. Written appraisals may take longer depending on the size of the collection and the level of detail required.
